Welcome, Jane! GUEST: Thanks for having me! I'm thrilled to be here and talk about this exciting new course. HOST: Could you start by sharing a little about your personal experiences and insights related to artivism and climate justice? GUEST: Absolutely! I've always been passionate about using art as a tool for social change, and I've seen firsthand the power of creative strategies in driving climate action. Artivism combines the best of both worlds, empowering individuals to make a real difference. HOST: Fascinating! And what current industry trends do you think are most relevant to the course? GUEST: There's a growing recognition of the importance of creative approaches to climate justice. From performance art to visual communication, artists and activists are increasingly using innovative methods to raise awareness and advocate for sustainable solutions. HOST: That's inspiring! But there must be challenges in this field or while teaching this subject. What are some of those challenges? GUEST: One challenge is engaging diverse communities and ensuring that artivism for climate justice is inclusive and accessible. We've designed the course to address this by incorporating community engagement and social media strategies, helping students find their unique artistic voice and connect with a broader audience. HOST: Thanks for sharing that. Now, looking to the future, what do you envision for the role of artivism in climate justice? GUEST: I believe artivism will play an increasingly critical role in driving climate action. As we face escalating environmental challenges, the need for creative, impactful strategies becomes more urgent than ever. Our course prepares students to be catalysts for change, contributing to a greener future and fostering a vibrant learning community dedicated to climate justice.
